Use x360ce to get it working. Takes a bit of work to get all the controls mapped to your liking, but worth it IMO.

How to use the Quick Menu in NMS. Access the Quick Menu using the control above, depending on what system you are playing No Man’s Sky on. From there a small taskbar will appear at the bottom of the screen containing icons you can horizontally scroll through - if you have ever used an Apple Mac, you will be instantly familiar with the process
Can't look around if using keyboard and mouse. There is no bind to it. Should add holding right mouse button since it has no use during flight. This would work the best, its also the default for Elite Dangerous to hold right mouse for look around. Letting go of the right mouse snaps your view back to default. #9.
Mouse steers ship. Press left alt and move mouse left or right to look in that direction. Make sure you center (or close to center) the mouse when you let go of left alt or you'll start to turn. I find that the locked control mode works best for me. There's no lag between control movement and ship action. Pick a control scheme and practice.
Belmon-T Aug 2, 2022 @ 10:42am. Remapping controls on PC. From fisrt days until today it continues to give the same problems. Controls cannot be assigned to different vehicles. Just the Exoskeleton. And for left-handed people it is a problem. I don't want to have to switch from keyboard to controller every time I take a vehicle.
Re: No Mans Sky: Can anyone suggest which type of joystick? There's an option in the settings for NMS to change how the flight controls work - Locked rather than Tethered - that makes a huge difference. I'm fine with keyboard and mouse for NMS, so I haven't tried a controller. For other games both the Steam Controller and the PS3 controller
